Loosen our shared spaces from dominance

DESCRIPTION:

If you've been in a live session with us, you can feel that something is different. We will unpack the intentional choices we've made to cultivate an experience that counters dominance and fosters human flourishing.

More than just the what, we will talk about the why behind these choices and show you how to use these tools at home, work, and in any group you are a part of.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

From this session, you will:

  • gain awareness of white communal patterns of dominance
  • reflect on your leadership habits
  • learn tools to counter dominance that work with 2+ people
  • practice non-dominance in small groups
  • connect with fellow white people on a liberation journey

SESSION DETAILS:

This session is offered by and for anyone living in a white body (more info below).

The live session was held virtually on zoom and recorded.

After enrolling, watch for an email with a short activity/reflection to help you prepare and the link to the live session recording.

We utilize an assortment of activities and zoom capabilities, and we encourage you to pause the recording as often as you need to try out the activities as if you were a live participant.

Access to the recording will expire on October 12, 2023.

WHY IS THIS FOR WHITE PEOPLE?

As white people, we need spaces to ask questions, work through ideas, feel, develop skills, and celebrate change - with each other.

Ali Michael and Mary C. Conger offer that a white affinity group

"Is a place for white people to examine what it means to be white, to critically reflect on themselves and their actions, and to work to identify and confront racism"

Justin C. Cohen shares that a white...

"...affinity space is a place where white people can practice, model, and improve anti-racist practices."
